Hooded Oriole in Half Moon Bay: We have two pairs of these and they are new visitors to our bird habitat. They typically nest in fan palms as pictured here. These palms are in our neighbor's yard across the street.
backyard birds. Golden Crowned Sparrow. Ground and shrub feeders, they enjoy the seeds that drop from the feeder. Their call is a series of three whistles descending, prompting us to dub them "bomb birds"
backyard birds: Purple finch taking advantage of the largesse of nyjer thistle seed. They eat this in the wild right on our coastal land - you will see them sitting right on the spiky thistle tops teasing out the tiny seeds. No wonder they crowd our feeder for an easy meal.
